Mr. Chanwit Chaikan, Judge of the Rayong Administrative Court, represented the Administrative Courts of Thailand at the Regional Forum on Environmental Procedural Rights in ASEAN, held during 27–28 July 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Forum was organised by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) together with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Thailand, with support from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta.

The Forum brought together members of the judiciary, national human rights institutions, legal experts, and civil society representatives from across the region to exchange views on environmental procedural rights — namely access to information, public participation, and access to justice. The discussions will feed into a regional ASEAN action plan under the ASEAN Declaration on the Right to a Safe, Clean, Healthy, and Sustainable Environment (ADER).

Judge Chanwit was invited to serve as a discussant for Session 2 on the first day of the Forum, "Launch and Presentation of the Baseline Findings and Recommendations." During the session, RWI presented the findings of its baseline study together with accompanying policy recommendations, and the discussants offered their reflections on what should be further emphasised, added, clarified, or strengthened in the findings and recommendations.

Participation in this Forum offered an important opportunity for the Administrative Courts of Thailand to exchange knowledge and experience on environmental justice with judicial bodies and international organisations across the ASEAN region, reflecting the Courts' continued role in advancing environmental governance and the protection of the public's rights on the international stage.
