Judge from the Administrative Court of Thailand attended the Regional Roundtable Dialogue on Operationalising Access to Environmental Justice under the ASEAN Declaration on the Right to a Safe, Clean, Healthy, and Sustainable Environment
Dr. Chanwit Chaikan, Judge of the Rayong Administrative Court, attended the Regional Roundtable Dialogue on Operationalising Access to Environmental Justice under the ASEAN Declaration on the Right to a Safe, Clean, Healthy, and Sustainable Environment held at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Bangkok during 9-10 December 2025. The event was organized by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI). The dialogue aims to facilitate a focused exchange on how access to environmental justice under the ASEAN Declaration on the Right to a Safe, Clean, Healthy, and Sustainable Environment can be effectively reflected on the forthcoming Regional Plan of Action (RPA).
At the Dialogue, Dr. Chanwit was invited as a speaker in Session 2: “Legal & Institutional Challenges and Promising Practices for Access to Environmental Justice.” The objective of this Session is to understand both the challenges of environmental impact cases reaching fair and timely remedies, and the promising institutional practices that can inform or inspire the RPA. In this Session, Dr, Chanwit briefly addressed some practical challenges faced by the Administrative Court and the ongoing amendments to environmental litigation procedures to improve access to environmental justice in Thailand.
